Balthazar Uptime: 4 days 2 hours 23 mins

Balthazar Uptime: 4 days 2 hours 23 mins. Google chrome seems to cause many DPC spikes when started up and running. Upon exiting, there were regular yellow spikes ever 3-5 green spikes.

Balthazar Raid 5 (S:) rebuild

So I restarted Balthazar (Shut down, turned back on) and the bottom drive in the raid 5 array wasn't responding. So I pulled it out and put it back in, and now it is rebuilding at about 25% per 10 hours.

Rebuild completed at approx. 1 day 13 hours. The rebuild rate seemed to slow and then accelerate again at about 57%. Seems I already copied the network backups to my first external 4GB drive (T:)

Balthazar Radi 5 S: Verify

Balthazar Radi 5 S verify took nearly 28 hours after having to force a shutdown from transfering from both G :and S:. Intel RST tried to verify again after I'm guessing it completed, which I stopped. S: had about 300 parity errors as well.

Balthazar Freeze

Well I turned my phone on while it was still plugged into the 24 port USB hub on Balthazar, and it froze the whole system.

Saturday, December 21, 2013

Balthazar Uptime 4 days 22 hours

I decided to restart Balthazar to verify again the integrity of the raid 5 array that makes up S:. Chrome also seems to have just died yesterday while I was out in Orland Park, and there was no option to restore my previous session, Session manager also brought up about 10 copies of google weather. Utorrent also seems to have died, unless I exited and forgot because I was going to run the Integrity check on S:

Gaspar Refresh

Well I decided to refresh Gaspar, and I am still having BSOD's. I also keep running SFC /scannow while I download or install the 80 or so windows updates.

Balthazar Audio pops, cracks, and cut outs

Balthazar has been ip for 1 day 19 hours, and I am having audio pops cracks, and even cutting out for a few seconds while browsing web pages and watching episodes of Quantum Leap off the S: raid 5 array.

Gaspar not exiting Sleep/Hibernate Properly?

I took Gaspar out and about, and after trying to wake it up from, sleep, I was faced with a black screen with a cursor for at least five minutes, so I had to force shutdown via power button.
Well I noticed this error In Balthazar's event long

System Error: The server was unable to allocate from the system nonpaged pool because the server reached the configured limit for nonpaged pool allocations.

Hi Ajay,

1.       Is the computer connected to a domain network?
2.       When exactly do you receive this error message?
3.       Do you have any third party antivirus or security program installed on your computer?

This issue occurs due to the antivirus software present on your computer and also the less system cache.

Step 1: As a test you may consider disabling security software on your Windows 7 computer and check for the issue.

Turn windows firewall on or off

Disable antivirus software

Note: Enable all security software after the test.

Step 2: If the issue gets resolved then I suggest you to follow these below steps.
a.       Click StartRun.
b.      Type "regedit"
c.       Set the following registry key to ‘1′:
d.      Navigate to:
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\LargeSystemCache
e.      And set the following registry key to ‘3′:
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters\Size

After making these changes, restart your machine.

Besides restarting, and came back early thursday morning to Balthazar having a hundred to a thousand dllhost prcoesses running. I had to force a shutdown by holding the power button to even just shut down. And of course, now I have to reinstall powerchute.

I am have been having trouble with Balthazar lately, as far as not being able to go more than 2 days before having to reboot or else the machine reboots for me. I thought I had this resolved with the GPU info desktop widgets, but I guess not. I also noticed that the widgets/sidebar.exe might be causing the DPC latency after a day of uptime, and the audio clicks.

Gaspar finally working!

I finally got Gaspar working with having a BSOD every 4 hours. I had over a day of  uptime before I rebooted to install spybot. Turns out it was the killer drivers.

Thursday, November 7, 2013

I had to uninstall and reinstall Chrome to get it to show my saved passwords, and after a reboot it seems to work!

Wednesday, November 6, 2013

Ok, so I was validating the last C backup in Acronis True Image, while copying files with Roadkill's Unstoppable copier from C to S when all my open windows started freezing up, first with explorer, the weather channel, and that horlanger desktop clock. I did a hard reset, and everthing seems ok, S' raid array is being rechecked, with 4 parity errors, hopefully from the copy operation.

Sunday, November 3, 2013

I restarted Balthazar at 10:30 to hopefully get a fix on what's causing the occasional audio pops, which are much less frequent then before, and it seems the pumps didn't kick on, so I shut down and restarted right away, before the raid 5 array even initilized, and the temp sensor seems to have reset, as best I can describe it. It flashed the temp off then on again, while the green background was still lit.

Saturday, October 26, 2013

Well I disabled my intel teamed NIC's to try and troubleshoot the source/cause of my audio popping and other odd sounds, and it froze the computer. I waited five minutes and restarted, with no apparently ill effects. I upgraded the NIC drivers from 18.6 to 18.7, and everything seems good now. I haven't seen any red spikes in the DPC latency checker, and only one yellow spike, I think.

The audio issues started a few days ago, from what I recall, and I'm not sure what caused it. It seems to get worse the longer the machine is on, but everything seems ok now. I'm not sure if windows update caused it, or the new version of avast (( 9.0 I think )), or something else.

Monday, October 21, 2013

Well I ran windows update early yesterday morning ( 10-20-2013 ) and apparently the machine bluescreened on reboot, while applying the windows changes, I'm guessing.

Saturday, October 12, 2013

Well at about 2:22 am on 10-12-2013 Balthazar froze while I was watching a youtube clip. I decided to wait, thinking it might be a short, 30 sec to 1 min freeze. Well I come back, and Balthazar is still frozen, with all the networking equipment off. Well it seems the battery backup I had the Router, switch, and modem attached to has completely died.

I was worried that there had been some short in the battery backup and that had somehow damaged Balthazar, since it bluescreened on start up. But that can happen from a BSOD restart too. But Balthazar seems to be fine now, and I have the networking equipment hooked up to other backups. It seems one of the top monitors was hooked up to the backup too, but it works upon switching plugs, so it seems everything ok.

What I want to know is why the backup died completely, and also caused Balthazar to freeze? I checked the wall plug and all, and the other backup connected to the same outlet is fine, so?

Uptime 7 days 14 hours

Well I had Balthazar on for 7 days and 14 hours until last night. I had to restart because i couldn't open new programs, IE an image with irfanview, without closing another one. I've seen this problem for awhile now, and from what I read, something somewhere is causing a memory leak.

I also left my raid 5 storage array defrag all night, left, and came home to it saying a disk had dropped. I re-added it and it's checking everything. I hope one of the 3TB seagates hasn't died already. If it has, I wonder if I can eventually transition them all over to 4TB drives. This is on the Intel RST ports/chip whatever, the bottom four, so who knows, I'm reading up on it.

Thursday, September 26, 2013

Well I transferred my games to a new drive, since the old Games (G:\) drive has a bad sector, and now the stalled file transfer problem has popped up again. It will be transferring fine..and then just stop before it's finished. The progress bar keeps scanning like a mad cylon, and the transfer rate seems to be slowing, but the transfer window refuses to close. I also tried running a game off the drive, and the progress circle next to the mouse cursor just spins and spins.
Well it has been a strange couple of days. I managed to keep Balthazar up for over 3 and 1/2 days,. but had to restart to kill a program. or should I say, do a forced shutdown. Well after that there have been some hiccups, had to re-install the APC UPS agent, winamp, etc. I've had to do a few more force shutdowns, and re-installs of the APC UPS, but everything seems good now. Also, the boot raid array seems stable again. I wonder if those transparent blue sata cables are faulty, seeing as how I think they were the same ones on my old 2TB anime drive and that had to be recovered due to corruption.

I also finally got Homeworld 2 working with a second hand .exe, hopefully it still works.

Strange Intel 250 series SSD Behavior

I checked Drive 0 of my raid 1 (mirror) boot array on the bathroom computer, doing quick/full scans, and optimizing it, and everything came back good. So I put it back in...and it drops about a minute after the rebuild completes. I switched it to a differant slot in my 4 bay hot swap cage, and rebuild. It works fine for ten hours, but then drops in the middle of a backup job with Acronis, along with high CPU usage which causes huge red spikes in my DPC latency checker program. Videos on youtube keeps pausing/freezing as well.

Well now I have it in it's third differant slot, right below drive 1, which seems to be the good drive right now. I'm probably going to get another one, just in case, a bit sooner than I'd planned on. I'd just like to know what the underlying problem is? is it the cable, which I'm going to replace with brand new latched ones, or the fact that I am running them in hardware raid 1 mode and can't run TRIM or the SSD toolbox to optimize them. A bit more hassle than a HDD, but then again, you should defrag those, and I guess TRIM would be an equivalent drawback.

Uptime as of this post is 1 day, 5 hours, and 41 minutes.

Bringing Balthasar back to life..again...

Well I just recovered Balthazar using the bathroom computer (HPPavillion103) and installed a trial ofEaseus Todo Workstation, since the AcronisTrue Image 2013 rescue CD won't booth on Balthazar. I messed with the UEFI settings and made sure secure boot was off and all that, in the BIOS. I recovered from a full sector backup I was lucky enough to do on Monday, so I didn't lose too much data, and I am going to copy over my Skyrim saves. That should leave me up to date. Oh, and I have to update Avast, since apparently I did that AFTER the full sector backup, just in case anything went wrong.
